Site-specific installation presented as part of the Chilean representation at the V Bienal del Mercosur, Porto Alegre, Brazil.
The project began with the collection in Santiago of sound material drawn from widely consumed Brazilian popular media and entertainment. In parallel, wooden fruit export boxes were found in Santiago, disassembled, transported as luggage to Porto Alegre, and reassembled on site. The recordings were composed into a four-channel audio piece that played continuously through the boxes, which were fitted with embedded sound systems and suspended with fishing lines.
The debris generated during construction and installation was preserved and presented beneath them. Mixed into this material were screenprints and audio CDs, including editions containing the piece being played. Placed among the waste, these items created uncertainty about whether they were discarded remnants or part of the work, leaving open the possibility for visitors to take them.
